New hair toy

Recently I’ve been wanting to play around with my hair sometimes. The one thing about a pixie (for me anyway) is that occasionally I get the urge to change things up. It’s harder when your hair is really short. I could color my hair I suppose but it gets complicated when your hair is nearly black. So I did what I always do and went to YouTube in search of inspiration.

The thing I discovered first is there isn’t a great deal of content on there regarding styling a pixie cut. I’m unsure if that’s because hair isn’t a popular section of YouTube or if it’s because of the short hair aspect. In any event, the common thread was a blow dryer is paramount. I have one, of course, but it’s at least 15 years old and has a cool shot button and all the attachments, if there were any, are long gone.

So, off I went to Target, hoping that a new one wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. Thankfully, that proved to be a realistic goal and I found one that was a whopping $18.76. It’s the Conair Double Ceramic 1875W and it comes with an attachment (called a concentrator) that makes blow drying so much easier. I have never been great at it, but I’m working on it. The feature that synched it for me was the three temperature options. One of the videos I watched recommended not to style “hot” hair, so the last few times I’ve blow-dried, I finished up with the cool setting. I don’t know if it really makes a difference or not, but it couldn’t hurt, right?

I did also buy a few new products, namely a Nexus mousse and a few texture pastes from Sexy Hair. In an effort to make life even easier on myself, I also chatted with my beautician and she gave me some pointers on how we could shake up my haircut.

Here is day one of the new haircut and using a few of the new supplies, including Bedhead Masterpiece hairspray (Jessica Braun from YouTube recommendation).

Having short hair has been an adventure, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have never felt more confident and feisty than I have with this pixie cut. It is not for everyone and I understand that, but it is fun rocking it and finding new ways to style. I think I do more with my hair now than I ever did when it was long.

If you’re in the market for a blow dryer and don’t need that diffuser thing, I would highly recommend the Conair Double Ceramic one from Target. There were some nifty dos using a flat iron, so I may look into that next. For now, I’m still on the fence. We’ll see what I decide.

Until next time, be kind and have a great day!

  1. I love my short hair for its wash and go ease but changing it up is hard. Good for you for trying something new. I am way too lazy!
